Farm Vet
Freeport: 7/29-8/2
Monday
On Monday, campers learned about the responsibilities of a farm vet, and how those roles differ from a traditional pet vet. They made vet coats, and also created bags full of vet tools. In the afternoon, campers tried out their vet skills on stuffies.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, campers studied dairy farms. The senior campers made 3D models of cows and calves, while the juniors made paper plate animals. Both rooms made ice cream, and also pretended to milk a cow by filling doctor's gloves with water and poking a small hole in one of the fingers of the glove.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, the seniors engaged in farm trivia, both answering questions and creating their own. Additionally, they studied different types of fences on a farm, and tried to build 3D model fences that would keep animals safe. The juniors learned more about how vets care for animals, and practiced washing plastic toy animals.
Thursday
On Thursday we went to Pineland Farm!! Ask your camper about their favorite animal.
Friday
On Friday we enjoyed two guest speakers. Tina Cormier, a humane educator from the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, presented about horses in the morning. In the afternoon, Spark's Ark arrived to teach the kids all about the exciting animals he rescues.
