Week at the Sandy Spa

WEEK AT THE SANDY SPA ON COUSIN'S ISLAND

DaVinci's Spa week is all about health beauty and science. We talk about healthy diets, exercise, products, and friendships. Here were some highlights of our week!

Spa Products

One of our big focuses at the sandy spa is that it is so important to know what you are putting on your body. Organic can be expensive and sometimes misleading. We made all sorts of spa products this week:
  • Sugar Lip Scrub
  • Avocado Face Masks
  • Foot Scrub
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Goat Soap
  • Bath-bombs

Almost every product we made contained ingredients that are most likely already in your pantry. And many of our products were edible.

Exercise

At the Sandy spa, a healthy life style is so important to us so we touched upon diet and exercise. Each day the girls would start their morning off with a different form of exercise.

  • Thai Chi
  • Yoga
  • Dance
  • Boot Camp Work Out
  • Meditation

We would also walk down to the Sandy Point Beach which is a fantastic 1 mile walk. We made Guacamole and cucumber, lemon, mint infused water. We talk about what a healthy diet consists of and had a fabulous time eating our guacamole.

Mindfulness

The girls learned about the idea of chakras and the bodies natural energy flow. We learned about them through a chakra candle ceremony that involved crystals and essential oils. Afterwards the girls got to make their own incense and paint chakra rocks.

Bonding Activities

At the spa we encourage positive female relationships and spent a whole day doing fun bonding activities together such as:

  • Painting nails
  • Braiding hair
  • Making friendship bracelets
  • Decorating flip flops
  • Reading Tarot Cards

Beach and Water Activities

If weather allowed and the girls were up for it, we would walk to the Sandy point beach after we finished all our days activities. The girls had so much fun swimming, picking raspberries, and playing with hermit crabs at the beach. On our last day we stayed at the community house and had water balloon fights for over an hour. This certainly was a lively bunch!

Secrets of Sound

Secrets of Sound It was a musical week at DaVinci! Monday It was COVID Monday! The campers made hand sanitizer and decorated their supply boxes. In the afternoon the campers learned about sound and how it travels in waves. Tuesday Today the campers learned how sound can impact them emotionally. They listened to music and created "mood" watercolors. The Juniors studied the Carnival of the Animals and pretended to be the animals in the songs. In the afternoon the campers studied echolocation.  Wednesday It was instrument day! Both classes made a variety of instruments. The Junior class also made fish puppet so that they could dance to the aquarium song from the Carnival of Animals soundtrack.  Thursday-Friday On Thursday, the campers prepared for their talent show, which was performed on Friday. Bravo, campers!

Crime Lab Camp

Dear DaVinci Community, We have had a great week at Crime Lab camp! Here is a look at a few of our favorite moments: Monday On Monday, the students created detective briefcases, which were made to hold all of their crafts for the week. After lunch, two detectives from the Portland Police department came to talk to the kids about being investigators. The detectives staged a crime scene and the children had to determine what was important evidence. Afterward, the children took the important evidence out to the police departments mobile crime truck that was parked in the elementary school parking lot. The kids got to use real crime scene tools to find and lift fingerprints off of the items in the staged crime scene. The Briefcases! The detectives have arrived! Tuesday We learned quite a bit about fingerprinting today. Each camper created his/her own print book, which was then decorated with fingerprints. Some students also chose to make lip prints with lipstick. They
