Crime Lab 7/8/2024-7/12/2024

 Monday

To settle into our forensic labs, campers made their own detective brief case to hold their forensic files. Older campers played a life sized game of clue, while younger campers transformed their room into a police department.

Tuesday

It's finger print day!!!! Older campers spent the day learning about finer prints, using an ink-pad to take finger prints, playing a mystery classroom matching fingerprint game, and lifting their finger prints off a glass with cocoa powder and tape.

Younger campers learned about their finger prints, and got to use ink-pads to make finger print art.

Wednesday

The big day has arrived! A real life police office came to camp and talked to all our campers about forensics and being a police officer. He even took our official finger prints.

Our older campers learned about blood types and DNA and how they are important evidence at a crime scene.

Younger campers learned about police dogs and played and tested their sense of smell with an essential oil mystery game.

Thursday

Though it was a tad rainy start to the day, we made the most of it anyway!

Juniors got to reveal secret messages with water colors. Seniors and intermediates in the morning broke into stations to learn about and explore facial recognition, voice recognition, and handwriting analysis. In the afternoon, the campers learned about black lights, and trace evidence, and proceeded to have a black light glow stick dance party in the gym!

Also, all the campers were given DaVinci t-shirts. The juniors could not for the life of them all fit into a picture and smile at the same time, but it made for a hilarious photoshoot!

Friday

What a whirlwind here at DaVinci today!!! The children arrived eager and ready for sprinkler day. To their collective dismay, the freezer once abundant with popsicles was empty and the sprinkler key which is integral to the flow of water for the sprinklers was gone! Additionally, the intermediate room was trashed. A perpetrator broke in late last night and turned the room upside down to steal the sprinkler key and ruin the perfect ending to a lovely camp week. Luckily, we had quite a few detectives on the job! The juniors took on the mystery of the missing popsicles. After tracking down clues, using their magnifying glasses, fingerprint knowledge, and interviewing staff member and each other, it turned out that the popsicles had simply been moved to a different freezer down the hall by none other than Miss Kristen herself. Just a big misunderstanding.

The intermediates and seniors got right to work collecting shoe prints, handwriting analysis, fingerprints, and blood types from the counselors at the camp to compare with the evidence found at the scene. After questioning all counselors, collecting evidence, and getting a warrant from Judge Janet, the campers were able to discover the sprinkler key had been stolen by our counselor Freddie! Everyone solved these cases right in the knick of time. To finish off our camp week strong with some refreshing popsicles and rejuvenating sprinklers.

Dr. DaVinci Falmouth

Monday  To start the week, the junior campers had a drawing brainstorming session of what they knew about doctors. Seniors campers spoke to their knowledge and made doctor bags/briefcases out of recycled materials. Both groups created body models with which they could incorporate various systems and organs including the brain and nervous system—which the "big kids" dove into further. = Tuesday  For our doctors, the heart and circulatory system was the focus of Tuesday. They built their own stethoscopes and played heart rate game. This involved doing low intensity versus high intensity activities and then comparing their heart rates/pulses. Wednesday On Wednesday, campers learned about the lungs and the respiratory system. Both seniors and juniors created lung models (of different complexities). Then after talking about how the lungs fill up in a way similar to balloons, we held a balloon party—many campers were able to blow them up with their impressive lung capacities! Thurs...

eARTh - Falmouth

Monday Today was all about learning how to be a resourceful artist. We learned that we can use household items around us to make different art mediums. Today we used eye shadow, Caribic powder, and a textile medium base to create shimmery eye shadow paint. Late on we learned that we can use our own body as art utensils in our group foot and finger painting project. We ended with the concept of using our body as the canvas, with some awesome face painting! Tuesday What a special treat today. The founder of DaVinci Experience, Judy Crosby, came in to do painting demos for the children and talk about earth pigments and homemade paints. Judy holds an art degree from the University of Southern Maine and loves to share her vast knowledge in painting with the children. Later on, the kids got to try their own hand in earth paint, collecting soils and items from the woods to make paints and paint brushes. We learned about why different soils are different colors and got creative with our ...
