CRIME LAB

Monday

To kick off our super fun week at Crime Lab camp, we learned all about what forensic science is and created our own brief cases. These brief cases will hold all our detective work throughout the week!

After lunch the kids had all sorts of fun creating a lie detector test and learning about hand writing analysis.

The kids are loving handwriting analysis

Tuesday

Tuesday was finger print day!!! The kids got to take their own finger prints, lift finger prints off glasses, and be detectives and identify finger prints of their friends.

Finger print day was so much fun!

The juniors made finger print art

Wednesday

On Wednesday we made lab coats and created our own detective and forensics scientist personas. The seniors put on a play at the end of the day using props they created and their lab coats. At the end of the day we had a black light glow stick dance party.

Thursday

On Thursday the kids learned all about voice analysis and got to record their voices saying a silly phrase. They analyzed the frequency of their voices and even got to listen to their voices in fast and slow motion. After snack a detective came in to talk to the the kids about evidence collection, and what it is like to be a detective. At the end of the day we played a giant life sized game of clue in the gym.

Friday

Last night a crime was committed!!!! One of the staff members stole the sprinkler key late at night. If the kids couldn't solve the mystery by lunch we wouldn't be able to play in the sprinklers!!! The detective campers quickly sprung into action. They dusted the scene for finger prints and used handwriting analysis to figure out who wrote an incriminating note. They found a shoe print that they were able to match to a counselor and found a page with invisible ink that indicated when the crime took place. After interviewing the staff, the children did a blood analysis (water and food coloring) and used a black light to find hidden clues. They were able to figure out that their counselors Jack had stolen the key!!! We were able to have sprinkler day after all.

This is our crime scene!!!!

The kids are using water color to make a secret message jump off the page to solve the mystery of the sprinkler key!

Dr. DaVinci Falmouth

Monday  To start the week, the junior campers had a drawing brainstorming session of what they knew about doctors. Seniors campers spoke to their knowledge and made doctor bags/briefcases out of recycled materials. Both groups created body models with which they could incorporate various systems and organs including the brain and nervous system—which the "big kids" dove into further. = Tuesday  For our doctors, the heart and circulatory system was the focus of Tuesday. They built their own stethoscopes and played heart rate game. This involved doing low intensity versus high intensity activities and then comparing their heart rates/pulses. Wednesday On Wednesday, campers learned about the lungs and the respiratory system. Both seniors and juniors created lung models (of different complexities). Then after talking about how the lungs fill up in a way similar to balloons, we held a balloon party—many campers were able to blow them up with their impressive lung capacities! Thurs...

eARTh - Falmouth

Monday Today was all about learning how to be a resourceful artist. We learned that we can use household items around us to make different art mediums. Today we used eye shadow, Caribic powder, and a textile medium base to create shimmery eye shadow paint. Late on we learned that we can use our own body as art utensils in our group foot and finger painting project. We ended with the concept of using our body as the canvas, with some awesome face painting! Tuesday What a special treat today. The founder of DaVinci Experience, Judy Crosby, came in to do painting demos for the children and talk about earth pigments and homemade paints. Judy holds an art degree from the University of Southern Maine and loves to share her vast knowledge in painting with the children. Later on, the kids got to try their own hand in earth paint, collecting soils and items from the woods to make paints and paint brushes. We learned about why different soils are different colors and got creative with our ...
