Week at the Sandy Spa

 MONDAY

On Monday we started the day off by getting to know each other and coming up with our own spa and product ideas.

For our topic of the day, we discussed the environmental impacts of micro beads and how we can exfoliate for cheap and be healthier just by using easily accessible home products. We then made a delicious and healthy brown sugar lip scrub. Here is a link to watch a youtube tutorial on making that particular lip scrub as well as several other great lip scrubs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWxPUmdgHG8

After making our scrubs we decorated little jars to put them in.

After our day's lesson and craft, we went down to the beach for some paddle boarding and swimming.

TUESDAY
In the morning we finished up our exfoliating topic by making a great salt scrub. We combined:
  • Two scoops of coconut oil
  • Himalayan Rock salt (eye balling it)
  • Coarse sea salt ( half as much as the rock salt)
  • one to two drops of essential oil (we used sandalwood)
  • And one or two drops of food coloring.
Afterward we started our next topic of the week, which was spa food! We talked about what it means to eat healthy fats, and the main food groups. We made guacamole and lemon and cucumber infused water as a nice snack.

After lunch, we went down to the beach for a little bit (because the weather wasn't great) and we skipped rocks and collected sea glass and walked along the beach. When we camp back up we had ice cream sundaes.

WEDNESDAY
We started off our Wednesday with yoga out on the grass. We then had a candle lighting ceremony where we learned about our chakras and our energy flow within our body. We learned about good essential oils, rocks, chants, and yoga moves associated with each chakra. After lunch we walked to the Sandy Point Beach.

THURSDAY
In the morning we finished up our chakra topic by painting chakra rocks and creating our own incense. You can make incense by combining:

  • About half a cup of denatured alcohol
  • As much essential oils as you want until you get to your desired cent
  • Blank incense sticks
  • Mix the oils and denatured alcohol and roll the incense in the mixture
  • Let the incense soak for at least 15 hours, then let them dry for a day.

After we finished up our incense and rocks, we made friendship bracelets and anklets! We then made a honey, banana, oatmeal face mask. To make that you need:
  •  1 cup of oatmeal, warmed
  • A mashed up banana
  • A few tablespoons of honey.
  • Mix together thoroughly

Afterwards we went paddle boarding and swimming.

FRIDAY

On Friday we had a full spa day. We meditated, then we painted nails, made more friendship bracelets, exfoliated with more salt scrub, treated our hair with Moroccan oil, burned our homemade incense, and made a bath bomb. If you want to make this great bath bomb recipe watch this youtube video:

After lunch we paddle boarded swam and had a big water balloon fight!

The Junior class also made fish puppet so that they could dance to the aquarium song from the Carnival of Animals soundtrack.  Thursday-Friday On Thursday, the campers prepared for their talent show, which was performed on Friday. Crime Lab Camp

Dear DaVinci Community, We have had a great week at Crime Lab camp! Here is a look at a few of our favorite moments: Monday On Monday, the students created detective briefcases, which were made to hold all of their crafts for the week. After lunch, two detectives from the Portland Police department came to talk to the kids about being investigators. The detectives staged a crime scene and the children had to determine what was important evidence. Afterward, the children took the important evidence out to the police departments mobile crime truck that was parked in the elementary school parking lot. The kids got to use real crime scene tools to find and lift fingerprints off of the items in the staged crime scene. The Briefcases! The detectives have arrived! Tuesday We learned quite a bit about fingerprinting today. Each camper created his/her own print book, which was then decorated with fingerprints. Some students also chose to make lip prints with lipstick. They
