Castle, Knights, and Princesses

Dear DaVinci Community,
It was a royal and fantastical week at Castles, Knights, and Princesses!
The seniors and the juniors

Monday

The Juniors got to create their own medieval personas and learned a song and dance to the story of Sleeping Beauty. In the afternoon, they made fairy wands and princess dresses. The Seniors learned how people in the Medieval Age told time and also made Codes of Honor.
Senior Class: Codes of Honor
Junior Class: Princess Dress Designing

Tuesday

Today was castle day! Both classes spent the morning planning their castle designs. They then dedicated the afternoon to building their castles out of recycled materials. The Juniors began their study of multicultural Cinderella stories. They read the Chinese story, “Ye-Shen,” and then painted Ye-Shen’s fish fairy godmother.

It was performance day! The seniors performed a skit of “Prince George and the Dragon” for the Juniors, and then the Juniors performed a song about Sleeping Beauty for the Seniors. In the afternoon, the Juniors read the Irish Cinderella and then made swords and shields. The Seniors kept busy on various crafts, such as medieval maps, life-size knight portraits, and more.

Thursday

It was Catapult Day! During the morning, the campers kept busy constructing their catapults. In the afternoon, the Juniors painted their catapults and also read the Persian Cinderella.

Check out that catapult!

Friday

Today was tournament day! After creating knight regalia, the seniors and the juniors duked it out in a marshmallow-catapult war. In the afternoon, the campers had sprinkler time.

It was a great week with a lovely group of campers. We hope to see you again soon!

Dr. DaVinci Falmouth

Monday  To start the week, the junior campers had a drawing brainstorming session of what they knew about doctors. Seniors campers spoke to their knowledge and made doctor bags/briefcases out of recycled materials. Both groups created body models with which they could incorporate various systems and organs including the brain and nervous system—which the "big kids" dove into further. = Tuesday  For our doctors, the heart and circulatory system was the focus of Tuesday. They built their own stethoscopes and played heart rate game. This involved doing low intensity versus high intensity activities and then comparing their heart rates/pulses. Wednesday On Wednesday, campers learned about the lungs and the respiratory system. Both seniors and juniors created lung models (of different complexities). Then after talking about how the lungs fill up in a way similar to balloons, we held a balloon party—many campers were able to blow them up with their impressive lung capacities! Thurs...

eARTh - Falmouth

Monday Today was all about learning how to be a resourceful artist. We learned that we can use household items around us to make different art mediums. Today we used eye shadow, Caribic powder, and a textile medium base to create shimmery eye shadow paint. Late on we learned that we can use our own body as art utensils in our group foot and finger painting project. We ended with the concept of using our body as the canvas, with some awesome face painting! Tuesday What a special treat today. The founder of DaVinci Experience, Judy Crosby, came in to do painting demos for the children and talk about earth pigments and homemade paints. Judy holds an art degree from the University of Southern Maine and loves to share her vast knowledge in painting with the children. Later on, the kids got to try their own hand in earth paint, collecting soils and items from the woods to make paints and paint brushes. We learned about why different soils are different colors and got creative with our ...
