 Shark Shenanigans

Monday

On Monday after getting to know one another and learning the rules, our shark enthusiasts learned all about the basic anatomy of a shark and designed what their favorite or make believe sharks would look like on paper. After snack the kids learned about the Blue Shark and used recycled materials and art supplies to bring their shark designs to life. After lunch we went to the beach to swim and explore.

Tuesday

Tuesday was another fun shark filled day! We spent our morning learning all about the 7 categories of the endangered species list and we learned about the lemon shark. After snack we sculpted our own clay sharks and talked about our theme of the day.... Monsters of the deep! We learned about the Goblin Shark, the Greenland Shark, and the Cookie Cutter Shark. After lunch we went back down to the beach, where the kids found all sorts of hermit crabs and green crabs.

Wednesday

Did you know sharks have up to 7 senses??? The kids learned about the unique abilities sharks have to sense their pray. Afterward the campers painted their clay sculptures and had snack. Once snack was over, we went into our theme of the day...DEADLIEST SHARKS!!! The kids learned about the Bull Shark, the Tiger Shark, and the infamous Great White Shark. After lunch we walked down to the beach for another beautiful day on the water.

Thursday

Thursday's theme was vegetarian sharks. We opened up the day learning about the Megamouth Shark, the Basking Shark, and the Whale Shark. After snack the kids made a shark mural featuring all the sharks we had learned about so far. We then learned about the Mako A.K.A the fastest shark on earth. It was too hot to walk to the beach today so after lunch we had a dance party and played with water balloons!

We played shark jeopardy to review the knowledge we had learned throughout the week. After snack the campers learned about our 3 final sharks of the week, the Angel Shark, the Thresher Shark, and the Hammer Head Shark and made shark habitats, slime, and finished the day off with a short movie about sharks.

Crime Lab Camp

Dear DaVinci Community, We have had a great week at Crime Lab camp! Here is a look at a few of our favorite moments: Monday On Monday, the students created detective briefcases, which were made to hold all of their crafts for the week. After lunch, two detectives from the Portland Police department came to talk to the kids about being investigators. The detectives staged a crime scene and the children had to determine what was important evidence. Afterward, the children took the important evidence out to the police departments mobile crime truck that was parked in the elementary school parking lot. The kids got to use real crime scene tools to find and lift fingerprints off of the items in the staged crime scene. The Briefcases! The detectives have arrived! Tuesday We learned quite a bit about fingerprinting today. Each camper created his/her own print book, which was then decorated with fingerprints. Some students also chose to make lip prints with lipstick. They
